Kangaroos Coast Past Tigers in 6-1 Rout Friday Night

(Kansas City, Mo.) - The UMKC men's tennis squad dominated in a 6-1 victory over Cowley College on Friday evening to stretch its win streak to four, while doing it in front of a solid crowd at the Plaza Tennis Center in a doubleheader with the women's squad.

The 'Roos (7-13) took the reins of the match early, clinching the doubles point with easy wins at No. 2 and No. 3, before coming from behind to steal a tiebreaker victory at No. 1 in front of a big crowd that had gathered to watch the last doubles match of the dual.

In singles play, Kansas City dispatched of the Tigers (5-8) quickly, getting quick wins from Mike Psarros at No. 3 and Uldis Gaismins at No. 5. Vinh Pham and Jai Grewal followed with their straight set wins, while Andrey Smirnov clinched his match at No. 2 in a second set tiebreaker after rolling in the opening set.

Tomas Patino battled injuries in his match, but in the end, he dropped a third set tiebreaker to fall.

The 'Roos will end their season next Wednesday at home against Northwest Missouri State at 3:00 p.m.
