
Carpenter Wins 5,000 To Lead ?Roos At Bill Cornell Spring Classic

(Kansas City, Mo.) – The Kansas City track and field team closed out the Bill Cornell Spring Classic with the women finishing fifth with 63 points and the men placing seventh with 34.5 points at the Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex in Carbondale, Ill.
Freshman Kelly Carpenter led the 'Roos, winning the 5,000 meter run with a personal best time of 17:35.87, while Bryce Miller placed second in the 3,000 meter steeple chase with a time of 9:23.20, the third best time in school history. Griffin Humphreys added 1.5 points with a personal best 9:46.60 to place seventh, while freshman Gabrielle Penaflor placed third and Sarah Fogarty finished fourth to earn a combined 14 points for the 'Roos.
In the 5,000 meter run, senior Dirk Hudson and freshman James Barnett recorded the second and third fastest times in school history with Hudson placing fifth in a time of 14:51.52 and Barnett coming in sixth in a time of 14:51.86.
Sophomore Blake Hocking placed fifth discus throw with a toss of 46.00m, while Dahlia Dyson was sixth on the women's side with a mark of 43.53 meters.
In the shot put, meanwhile, Dyson improved upon her third best mark in school history with a toss of 13.26 meters to place sixth, while Kelsey Benoit placed fifth (13.32) and on the men's side Hocking placed fourth (15.79).
Others earning points for the 'Roos included the women's 4x400 relay team (3 points), Dyson in the hammer throw (7th – 49.39), Leverette in the hammer throw (8th – 51.80), Dasjah Mason in the high jump (5th – 1.48m), Sarah Krig in the high jump (8th – 1.48m), Josh Harden in the triple jump (7th – 13.23), Darrell Satterfield in the triple jump (8th – 13.02), Rebecca Hasenkamp in the javelin (3rd – 33.40m), Meg Sharemet in the javelin (8th – 28.15), Mallory Short in the 100 meter hurdles (8th – 28.15m), Lynette Cottingham in the 100 meter dash (8th – 12.73), Brooke Guiot in the 800 meter run (6th – 2:17.33), Amani Borders in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.16), Brady Adams in the 100 meter dash (22.18), Daniel Prioleau in the 100 meter dash (7th – 22.27) and Megan Mills in the 5,00 meter run (3rd – 18:14.26).
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again next week when they head to Emporia, Kan., for the Emporia Relays on Apr. 5.
