(Kansas City, Mo.) – The Missouri-Kansas City volleyball team (19-3, 7-0) continued its winning ways on Friday night, picking up a 3-0 win over Chicago State (6-17, 0-8) in a WAC battle at the Jacoby Dickens Center in Chicago, Ill.
With the win, the 'Roos extend their school record win streak to 15 matches and maintain the top spot in the WAC standings. The 19 wins, meanwhile, ranks as the second most wins in school history, trailing only the 20 wins by the 1999 squad.
Offensively, Melissa Hartsel and Jessica Hendin led the 'Roos finishing with 10 kills each, while hitting .600 and .450, respectively. As a team, UMKC hit a season-high .415, the second highest total in the WAC this season.
The 'Roos jumped all over the Cougars in the first set, scoring the first five points of the match and 10 of the first 11. CSU scored the next two, but it was not nearly enough as UMKC won set one 25-7 with a Hendin kill ending the set.
UMKC continued to roll in set two, using a 17-4 run in the middle of the set to take a 19-9 lead. CSU would close to as little as seven, but back-to-back kills by Emma Hagedorn and a Cougar error gave UMKC the set 25-14.
In the third set, the 'Roos closed out the match, winning 25-15. The score was tied midway through at 12-12, but a 13-3 run by the 'Roos sealed the victory for Kansas City.
Taryn Miller, meanwhile, added 14 digs in the back row, while Kaylyn Brandt tallied 20 assists and Nicole Wemhoff added 15. Hagedorn chipped in eight kills, hitting at a .375 clip.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Sunday when they head back to Kansas City for a return match with the Cougars at 4 p.m.
