
Top-Ranked Bruins End 'Roos Season in NCAA Tourney, 4-0

(Los Angeles, Calif.) – The No. 1 ranked UCLA Bruins ended the UMKC men's tennis season on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, taking a 4-0 win and moving to the round of 32.
The Bruins (25-1) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in doubles play, taking 8-1 and 8-3 wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 positions. UMKC (13-11) was trailing 7-3 at the No. 2 spot before the match was halted.
In singles play, UCLA rolled out a lineup that included four nationally ranked players, and took control early. Marcos Giron, ranked No. 25 in the nation, took out senior Nino Hasandedic at the No. 1 position, followed by another straight-set shutout at No. 5 by Karue Sell over Tim Akhmedov. The Bruins finished it off at the No. 4 position when 119th ranked Clay Thompson won 6-0, 6-1 over Andrey Smirnov.
Kansas City will head into the offseason with the tough task of replacing five seniors, while moving to a new conference in the WAC. UCLA will play Drake on Saturday in the round of 32 for the right to advance to the NCAA Championships site at Urbana, Illinois.
