With this loss, the Kangaroos dropped their fifth straight, with each defeat coming throughout this weekend's games.
In the first, after pitcher Deanna Friese (2-3) walked the first two batters, Penn State's Kailyn Johnson RBI-singled to bring in a runner for the first score of the game. Later in the inning, same score, the Nittany Lions increased their lead to four after an RBI-single by Macy Jones and a sac-fly RBI by outfielder Alyssa Sovereign.
But, Kansas City cut the lead to three in the first when infielder Marlee Maples laid down a bunt to bring in outfielder Brooke Parker from third, who led off the inning with a walk.
However, the Nittany Lion offensive attack continued to thrive in the following inning when outfielder Cassidy Bell (3) sent a two-run blast to right to make it a 6-1. Two batters, with a runner at first, Jones (2) hit a two-run homer of her own to push Penn State's lead to seven.
In the third, Penn State made it a 10-1 ball game when infielder Alyssa Renwick RBI-tripled to score a run, while Bell drove in a run when she reached first on a fielder's choice. As for Kansas City during this inning, Maples grounded out to short, but not before Parker scored from third to cut the deficit to eight.
Next inning, the 'Roos had a chance to do some damage with the bases loaded and two outs, yet they could not break through as Penn State's defense held steady and got out of the jam.
Kansas City would make one last final push in fifth, beginning with back-to-back singles by designated player Emily Ott and infielder/outfielder Katie Kelley. But, the Nittany Lions retired the next three batters to end the game.
Offensively, Parker led Kansas City with a 2-for-2 performance with two runs scored, while Ott and Kelley both went 2-for-3 on the day.
Coming up, the Blue & Gold will take part in next weekend's Blues City Classic, hosted by the Memphis Tigers, against the likes of SIU-Edwardsville, Indiana State, Belmont, Nicholls State and Detroit.
