
'Roos Open UniWyo Cowgirl Classic With 3-0 Win Over Wildcats

Fossier, who registered a career-high .643 hitting percentage with 10 kills and only one error, notched the first 'Roo kill of the match in the first set and started an 18-4 rally with her second kill that put UMKC in front 21-7. The Plano, Texas, native would finish the set with five kills, while freshman Sydney Crimmins' second kill ended the set, giving the 'Roos a 25-10 win.
In the second set, the Kangaroos went on an 8-1 run early in the game, capped by a Chloe Jarema ace, to build a 14-6 lead. The Wildcats pulled to within two at 19-17, but a 6-1 run to end the set, featuring two aces by freshman Skyler Muff and one by Jarema, put UMKC in front 2-0 with a 25-18 victory.
UMKC the wrapped-up the match with a 25-15 third set win after building an early 5-1 lead on a Taryn Miller ace. Kansas City would maintain its lead at 15-11 before using a 4-0 run, jump started by back-to-back kills by sophomore Morgan Voorhes and Skyler Muff, to push the lead to eight. BC would score just four more points the rest of the way and Fossier and Voorhes each added a pair of kills over the final six points to close the match.
As a team, UMKC hit .349, with Crimmins, Muff and Voorhes all notching five kills. Defensively, Miller topped the team with 13 digs, while Nicole Wemhoff and Ella Meier recorded 21 and 12 assists, respectively.
The Blue & Gold will continue play in the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic at 6 p.m. tonight against Florida Gulf Coast.
