
Kangaroos Dominate PVAMU, Fall To HBU On Final Day Of UNT Invite

For the Kangaroos, senior Emily Lucas was named to the North Texas Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Game 1: Kansas City 3, Prairie View A&M 0
In the day's opening match, the Kangaroos came out clicking on all cylinders, setting a Mean Green Volleyball Center record with a .493 hitting percentage, while limiting Prairie View A&M to a -.045 mark in the 3-0 win over the Panthers.
Freshman Sydney Crimmins powered the 'Roo effort with eight kills and no errors for a .727 hitting percentage, adding an ace and two blocks in her performance. In all, five Kangaroos hit over .300 with five or more kills, including freshman Emma Hagedorn (8-0-11/.667), senior Brittany Fossier (6-0-11/.545), Lucas (6-1-10/.500) and junior Chloe Jarema (8-3-16/.312).
Kansas City started the match on a 5-1 run, before a 5-0 stretch, with Crimmins serving, pushed the lead to 12-4. The 'Roos would go on to take the set 25-13, closing it out on a kill by senior Ella Meier.
The Kangaroos continued their dominance in the second set, scoring the first eight points, including three kills from Hagedorn. After the Panthers ended the run on a rare UMKC error, the 'Roos reeled off the next 10 points, highlighted by three of freshman Taryn Miller's four aces, building an 18-1 advantage before taking the set 25-6. In the set, Kansas City hit .706, while PVAMU hit -.222.
Coming out of the intermission, the 'Roos would close out the match with a 25-14 third set win, featuring four kills from Fossier and three each from Lucas and Jarema.
For the Kangaroos, freshman Nicole Wemhoff recorded a team-high 21 assists, with Meier added 14. Lucas, meanwhile, finished with a team-high 10 digs and three aces.
Game 2: Houston Baptist 3, Kansas City 0
In match two, Kansas City fell in their tournament finael, 3-0 to Houston Baptist despite a career-high tying 16 kills by Lucas.
In the first set, Kansas City jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but 10 of the next 15 points went to Houston Baptist to give the Huskies a three-point advantage. The 'Roos battled back to take a 16-15 lead midway through the set, but with the score tied late at 22, one of 16 ties in the game, HBU went on a 3-0 run to take the set 25-22 and a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set saw Kansas City fall behind 9-3, before a 16-7 streak by the squad, featuring four kills from Lucas, put the 'Roos in front 19-16. Houston Baptist answered with the next four points and, with the score tied at 24, notched the final two points of the set to build its lead to 2-0 with a 27-25 win.
The Huskies then went on to close out the match with a 25-16 third set win.
In the match, Jarema tallied nine kills, 10 digs, an ace and an assist, while Miller's 17 digs were a team-high. Setting up the offense, Wemhoff had 19 assists and Meier 14.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again next weekend when they head to Laramie, Wyo., for the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic on Aug. 31-Sep. 1.
