
Curry Becomes UMKC?s All-Time Career Hit Leader, But the Jags Take Both Games in Saturday?s Doubleheader

In game one in the third with one out, no score, Curry singled to short to tie Rice at 201. But, IUPUI would retire the next two batters to end the inning.
Next inning, IUPUI scored the game's lone run when outfielder Megan Cory bunted and reached first on a fielder's choice as infielder Jenny Royse scored from third.
Offensively, the Jags were led by infielder Kelsey Rupert as she recorded three of the team's five hits with a 3-for-3 performance. In the circle, Jocelyn Oppenhuis (5-9) allowed four hits, while her counterpart, Deanna Friese (8-11), struck out six as she completed her 16th game of the season.
In game two in the second with IUPUI leading 1-0, Jags outfielder Lindsey Richards tripled to center off pitcher Cinda Ramos (8-10) as Cory scored from first to make it a 2-0 ball game. Later in the inning, catcher Nicole Checkie RBI-singled for one of her three hits in game two and advanced to second after an error by UMKC as Richards scored.
In the third for UMKC with one on and one out, Curry singled to third to become UMKC's career leader in hits. Next up, infielder Kelly Fischer grounded out to third, followed by catcher Caitlin Christopher flying out to third to end the inning.
"I'm extremely proud of Kaelene because she's done nothing but work hard and set a great example for her teammates since her freshman season," said head coach Meredith Smith.
In the sixth, UMKC had a chance to cut into IUPUI's lead with two runners on and one out, but Ramos flew out to first as Nikki Thomas (5-14) struck out outfielder Lea Diaz. Next inning, the Kangaroos were retired in order to end the game.
Tomorrow, UMKC and IUPUI will conclude its three-game set at 12 p.m.
