
Friese Pitches a Shutout as the ?Roos Defeat IUPUI, 2-0

In the first for UMKC with two on and one out, no score, outfielder Emily Ott flew out to center, but infielder Kaelene Curry scored from third as infielder Kelly Fischer advanced to third and later scored after an IUPUI throwing error.
In the fifth with two outs and nobody on, UMKC still leading 2-0, the Jags caught a break when Deanna Friese (9-11) walked two consecutive batters. But, the Kennesaw, Ga. native bounced back by striking out infielder Aundria Basquez to get out of the jam.
To close out the game in the seventh, Friese struck out the first two batters, followed by Basquez grounding to third to seal the 2-0 victory for UMKC.
In the win, Friese allowed two hits and struck out eight on her way to pitching her second shutout and 17th completed game of the season. Offensively, Curry led the way with a 2-for-2 performance along with a run, while Fischer went 1-for-3 with a run.
Coming up, the Kangaroos will head south to face the Arkansas Razorbacks on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
