To start the game, UAB struck first when catcher Mandy Lowman RBI-doubled to left field off pitcher Deanna Friese (3-6) as outfielder Kayla Orr scored from third.
In the second inning, the Blazers tacked on two unearned runs when pinch runner Amy Dennis scored on a sac-fly RBI by outfielder Tiffany Smith as pinch runner Chandler Orr scored on a wild pitch.
In the top of the third with two on and one out, Dennis singled through the right side as K. Orr scored from third to make it a 4-0 ball game.
Later in the inning for UMKC with nobody on and one out, catcher Katie Henning sent one deep for her first homer of the year to cut UAB's lead to three.
Next inning for the Blazers with one out and nobody on, outfielder Whitney Fletcher hit one off the centerfield wall and would come around to score for an inside-the-park homerun to give UAB a 5-1 lead.
In the fifth for UMKC with one on and two outs, Henning singled as infielder Chelsea Hartwig advanced to second. Next up, outfielder Ashley Whiteside was hit by a pitch to load the bases for infielder Kaelene Curry.
With a chance to cut into the lead, Lowman attempted to pick-off pinch runner Danielle Bennefeld at third, but the ball got away from infielder Issa Brown. As a result, Bennefeld tried to score, but was thrown out at home by outfielder C. Orr to end the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, same score, with one on and two outs, Whiteside popped out to third to end the game.
The Blue & Gold will be in action tomorrow as it will face Kentucky (10-12, 0-3 SEC) at 12 p.m. and take part in the first game of bracket play action.
