
?Roos Defeat Butler 1-0 in Extra Innings to Close Out the Evansville Tournament

Yesterday, the Kangaroos came away with a 2-0 victory over the Bulldogs behind senior Kelly Fischer's 2-for-3 performance at the plate which included two RBI's. On the mound, freshman Cinda Ramos (5-1) gave up five hits and struck-out three in four innings for her third win of the season.
Entering the sixth inning on Sunday, Bulldogs pitcher Breanna Fisher (1-1) limited the UMKC offense to no hits, while striking out six. In the bottom of the sixth, junior Emily Ott singled up the middle for the first UMKC hit of the game. Next up, Chelsea Hartwig reached first on a fielder's choice as Ott was tagged out at second.
Later in the inning with two outs after senior Dainelle Bennefeld was thrown out at first, Megan Vicino singled up the middle for the second UMKC hit. With momentum building, Fisher was replaced by Leah Bri as she finished the game allowing two hits, walking two, and six strikeouts.
Next up, freshman Caitlin Christopher singled through the left side as Vicino advanced to second. Then, Bri walked senior Anna Sokolik to load the bases for UMKC with freshman Bri Wyatt coming to the plate. However, the Bulldogs got of the jam when Sokolik grounded out to end the inning.
As for Deanna Friese (1-3) in 6.1 innings of work, she allowed five hits and no runs along with a season-high 11 strikeouts. In the bottom of the seventh with one on and one out, Meaghan Sullivan singled down the left-field line. After that, head coach Meredith Smith replaced Friese with Ramos as she forced the next two Bulldog batters to fly out to end the inning.
In the top of the eighth, the 'Roos defense held Butler scoreless as they retired the side in order. Leading off for UMKC with Bennefeld at second, Vicino hit a grounder to the shortstop, but Kristen Boros made a bad throw to first. As a result, Bennefeld rounded third and won the play at the plate to win the game.
At Sunday's end, UMKC finished the Evansville Tournament with a four-game winning streak heading into next week's Missouri Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament that will feature Mizzou, Missouri State, and Southeast Missouri.
Also, Ramos recorded her fifth win of the season.
