
?Roos Push Winning Streak to Five with a 7-1 Victory Over Saint Louis

(Kansas City, Mo.) - After an hour delay due to inclement weather, the UMKC softball team (7-4) defeated the Saint Louis Billikens (10-7) 7-1 in the first game of the Missouri Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament on Friday.
In the top of the second with UMKC down 1-0 with runners at first and second, senior Anna Sokolik singled left field as junior Emily Ott scored, while freshman Caitlin Christopher advanced to second.
Next inning, after a sacrifice bunt by senior Kelly Fischer to move senior Kaelene Curry to second, senior Megan Ussary singled up the middle to bring home Curry to take a 2-1 lead. Later in the inning with Ott at the plate, Ussary stole third and then scored due to an erred throw by catcher Alyson Brand.
The Kangaroos added to their lead with two runs in the sixth and seventh innings. With runners at the corners in the sixth, Curry advanced to second on a wild pitch as Wyatt scored to give UMKC a 4-1 lead. Then, after a Fischer walk and an Ussary strikeout, Ott singled to bring home Curry, but Fischer was tagged out at third to end the inning.
To seal the game in the seventh, Christopher hit her first career homerun and team's second this season. Later in the inning with bases loaded, Kelcie Matesa walked Fischer as freshman Lea Davis scored to make it a 7-1 contest.
To finish the day, Ott went 3-for-4 with three hits and one RBI, while Christopher and Sokolik both went 2-for-4 with two hits. Also, Curry went 2-for-3 with two hits and two runs scored.
On the mound, the reigning Summit League Pitcher of the Week, Cinda Ramos (6-1), completed her sixth game of the year while giving up six hits and one earned run.
The Blue & Gold will be in action Saturday (5 p.m.) as it will take on Missouri State (7-2). In game two, the Bears also defeated the Billikins in a 3-1 contest.
