
'Roos Halt Three Match Skid With 3-2 Win Over Nebraska-Omaha

Junior setter Brittney Robers, meanwhile, recorded a career-high 31 assists for the Blue & Gold, while junior Ella Meier finished with 22.
In the match, the 'Roos fell behind early, dropping the first set 25-19, before evening the match with a 25-20 second set victory. In the second set, the two teams were tied at four, eight points in, but a 6-0 run by the 'Roos gave them the 10-4 advantage. UMKC would extend its lead to as many as eight before the Mavericks pulled to within one at 19-18. The Kangaroos though, used a 6-2 run, capped by a kill from senior Christiana McQuin, to tie the match at one heading into intermission.
Coming out of the break, the 'Roos would take their first lead of the match with a 27-25 win. UMKC again took a big lead early, outscoring UNO, 9-3 to open the set. The Mavericks though clawed their way back into contention, tying the set late at 25. The Kangaroos would not be denied, and, after an error from UNO, a Knoche kill closed out the set.
In the fourth set, the Mavericks tied the match for the second time, taking the set 25-21, to force a decisive fifth game. In the fifth, UMKC went ahead 4-1 before UNO pulled to within one at 7-6. The 'Roos would answer UNO's rally with one of their own, building their lead back up to three at 12-9 before a 3-1 run gave UMKC the match.
For the 'Roos, Erin Wellwood finished with 14 digs, while Nicole Kerkman notched 10. At the net, McQuin had a team-high five of the Kangaroos' seven blocks.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Saturday when they visit first year Summit League member South Dakota for a 5 p.m. match in Vermillion.
