
UMKC Closes Out Regular Season This Weekend With Oral Roberts And Western Illinois

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC men's tennis team will close out the regular season with Oral Roberts and Western Illinois this weekend. The Kangaroos face the Golden Eagles on Friday at 2 p.m. and wrap up Summit League play with the Leathernecks on Sunday at 10 a.m. All matches are scheduled to be played at the Plaza Tennis Center.
Sunday's match against Western Illinois will serve as Senior Day for the Kangaroos. Head coach Kendell Hale and the `Roos will honor and recognize Zach Alholm, Nick Hays, Nick Mader and Serge Ristivojevic.
The `Roos are coming off of a 6-1 win over Cowley County C.C.
Opponent Preview
Oral Roberts is 4-7 overall and sitting second in The Summit League with a 3-1 record. They are coming off of a 7-0 win over Centenary.
Western Illinois is 8-2 overall and tied with UMKC in the league with a 4-0 record. The Leathernecks are coming off of a 5-2 win over IUPUI and will face Oral Roberts on Saturday before taking on UMKC. Western Illinois has five players that are undefeated in Summit League play.

The `Roos went 2-0 over the weekend at Fort Wayne, Ind., and clinched a spot in The Summit League Men's Tennis Championships. The League Championships will be April 23-24 in Fort Wayne, Ind. Western Illinois (4-0), Oral Roberts (3-1) and IUPUI (4-2) have also made the tournament.
`Roos Extend Winning Streak To 10
The UMKC men's tennis team is currently on a 10-game winning streak, following a win over Cowley County C.C. This is the second best consecutive winning streak for the men's tennis program. Head coach Kendell Hale guided the `Roos to 11 consecutive wins last season, the most in school history.

The UMKC men's tennis team defeated Cowley County C.C. on April 12 at the Plaza Tennis Center, 6-1. The Kangaroos improve to 12-6 overall and record their 10th consecutive win.
In doubles action, Gustavo Guerin and Cameron Schoenhofer defeated Zach Evenden and Tom Gibaud, 8-4, at the No. two slot. The UMKC duo of Serge Ristivojevic and Nick Mader defeated John Ward and Dave Chera, 8-4. At the No. 1 slot, Nino Hasandedic and Grant Fleming battled despite a 9-8 (7-4) loss from Joan Valls and Nei Dos Santos.
In singles competition, Hasandedic, Fleming (10th consecutive singles victory), Ristivojevic and Guerin all won in two sets. Abdul Alawadhi played a hard match against Gibaud and came out on top, 6-1, 6-7 and 6-4.
Men's Tennis Tabbed As Favorites In Summit League Preseason Poll
The UMKC's men's team is the favorite to claim the 2011 Summit League tennis Championship according to a poll of league head coaches. The UMKC men placed first during the regular season before finishing as runner-up at the league tournament last season.
In the men's poll, UMKC received three of seven first-place votes for a total of 32 points, edging out defending 2010 runner-up Oral Roberts, which also received three first-place votes to total 30 points. IUPUI had 26 points to place third followed by Western Illinois, IPFW, South Dakota State and Centenary.

Head coach Kendell Hale in entering his fourth season with the `Roos and in that short amount of time he has experienced an enormous amount of success. In 2010, the men's squad were The Summit League Regular Season Champions. The Kangaroos were the 2009 Summit League Tournament Champions, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Hale was voted the 2010 United States Professional Tennis Association College Coach of the Year and was the 2009 USPTA Missouri Valley College Coach of the Year.
