
UMKC Hosts Cowley County C.C. On Tuesday At Plaza Tennis Center

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC men's tennis team hosts its last non-conference match of the season with Cowley County C.C. on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Plaza Tennis Center. The Kangaroos are 11-6 overall and 4-0 in The Summit League.
The Kangaroos are currently on a nine-game winning streak and are coming off of a 7-0 win over Centenary.
Kangaroos Clinch Summit League Playoff Spot
The `Roos went 2-0 over the weekend at Fort Wayne, Ind., and clinched a spot in The Summit League Men's Tennis Championships. The League Championships will be April 23-24 in Fort Wayne, Ind. Western Ilinois (4-0), Oral Roberts (3-1) and IUPUI (4-2) have also made the tournament.
`Roos Extend Winning Streak To Nine
The UMKC men's tennis team is currently on a nine-game winning streak, following wins over IPFW and Centenary. This is the second best consecutive winning streak for the men's tennis program. Head coach Kendell Hale guided the `Roos to 11 consecutive wins last season, the most in school history.

Last Time Out: `Roos Remain Perfect In Summit League Play With 7-0 Sweep Over Centenary
The UMKC men's tennis team recorded its ninth consecutive win on Saturday afternoon over Centenary, 7-0. The Kangaroos improve to 11-6 overall and remain a perfect 4-0 in Summit League play.
In doubles competition, Nino Hasandedic and Grant Fleming defeated Jonathan Threadgill and Micah Threadgill, 8-4, while Gustavo Guerin and Cameron Schoenhofer defeated Garett Whipple and Evan Magill, 8-5. At the No. 3 slot, Serge Ristivojevic and Abdul Alawadhi were victorious over Sam Grace and Michael Reeks, 8-2.
UMKC won every singles match in two sets.
Men's Tennis Tabbed As Favorites In Summit League Preseason Poll
The UMKC's men's team is the favorite to claim the 2011 Summit League tennis Championship according to a poll of league head coaches. The UMKC men placed first during the regular season before finishing as runner-up at the league tournament last season.
In the men's poll, UMKC received three of seven first-place votes for a total of 32 points, edging out defending 2010 runner-up Oral Roberts, which also received three first-place votes to total 30 points. IUPUI had 26 points to place third followed by Western Illinois, IPFW, South Dakota State and Centenary.

Head coach Kendell Hale in entering his fourth season with the `Roos and in that short amount of time he has experienced an enormous amount of success. In 2010, the men's squad were The Summit League Regular Season Champions. The Kangaroos were the 2009 Summit League Tournament Champions, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Hale was voted the 2010 United States Professional Tennis Association College Coach of the Year and was the 2009 USPTA Missouri Valley College Coach of the Year.
