UMKC Beats IPFW on the Road, 2-1, for its Fourth-Straight Win

Not only did UMKC (5-5-3, 3-0) extend their winning streak to a school-best four, but it was the fourth consecutive time the final score resulted in a 2-1 victory in favor of the 'Roos.
In the first half, IPFW (3-7, 0-2) got on the board first with a quick score by freshman midfielder Sydney Hoareau during the fourth minute. Junior forward Arianne Mason was credited with the assist.
But, like they've done in the last four games, UMKC stormed back in the second half to cut into the lead. In the 68th minute, junior midfielder Randi Simmons scored on a spectacular header-goal to tie the game at one. Sophomore forward Taylor Bare and freshman defender Kaely Tott were credited with the assists.
Then, with only 1:40 remaining, UMKC's junior midfielder Zaina Mayer was fouled by IPFW which resulted in a penalty kick. With a great opportunity at hand, Mayer capitalized with her third goal of season to seal the 2-1 victory.
With that goal, it was Mayer's second penalty kick score and is now second on the team in goals scored behind Bare (6).
Coming up next UMKC, it will look to go 4-0 in Summit League action on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. against the Oakland Grizzlies. In last season's match-up, the 'Roos fell 2-1 in overtime at home to the Grizzlies.
