In the match, the 'Roos found themselves in a 2-0 hole after dropping the first set 25-21 and the second set 27-25 after being tied at 25 late in the set.
Coming out of intermission, the 'Roos appeared to be heading for a 3-0 loss, trailing by seven in the set at 18-11. At that point, the 'Roos scored five of the next six points to pull within three at 19-16. After the two teams traded the next six points, the Kangaroos closed the set out on a 6-1 run to cut the IUPUI lead in half with 25-23 win.
In the fourth set, the two squads battled early before IUPUI went ahead by four at 15-11. A 5-0 run, though, by UMKC, including a Meier ace and a kill by sophomore Chloe Jarema, put the 'Roos in front 16-15. After trading the next five points, the Kangaroos built their lead to three on three Jaguar errors at 21-18. IUPUI then pulled to within one at 22-21, but three of the final four points went to the 'Roos, giving UMKC the 25-22 win and forcing a fifth set.
In the deciding set, IUPUI scored the first point, but UMKC quickly took a three-point lead at 9-6 on a kill by Meier. A 3-0 run by IUPUI tied the set at nine, before a Jarema kill put the 'Roos back in front 10-9. The Jaguars then reclaimed the lead with two straight points, but back-to-back kills from the lone UMKC underclassman put the Kangaroos on top 12-11. The Jaguars then evened the set for an eighth time, but Jarema's fourth kill in seven points gave UMKC back the lead at 13-12. Senior Elizabeth Beck followed with a kill of her own to push the lead to two, and after a point from the Jags, Knoche finished off the comeback with her 17th kill of the night to give UMKC the 3-2 victory.
