Chicago, Ill. -- The UMKC men's soccer team battled Loyola Chicago to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Loyola Soccer Park. Junior Jimmy Simon notched the 'Roos goal in the second half - his second strike of the young season.
After a scoreless first half, UMKC got on the board first in the 58th minute. The junior fired a shot from 10-yards out from midfield past a charging Peter KcKeown to put the 'Roos up 1-0.
The Ramblers notched the equalizer in the 67th minute when Eric Nock converted on a penalty kick. The 'Roos had an excellent chance to put an end to the contest in regulation when John Bayron Sosa attempted a UMKC PK in the 84th minute. McKeown made the save, however, to keep the contest knotted at one apiece.
Loyola finished with a 16-13 advantage in overall shots and a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. The Ramblers also had 13 corner kicks compared to five in the contest for the 'Roos. Senior Ken Cooper made four saves for UMKC in 110 minutes in between the posts.
UMKC (2-1-1) will return to action on Wednesday night when it heads to Des Moines, Iowa, to face Drake.
