'Roos Complete Perfect Spring Break Trip With 6-1 Win Over Niagara

Orlando, Fla. -- The UMKC men's tennis team won its sixth straight and 12th match of the season with its 6-1 triumph over Niagara on Thursday afternoon in Orlando. The 'Roos won the tightly contested doubles point before posting wins at the Nos. 1-5 positions to end its trip to Florida with a perfect 3-0 record.
UMKC claimed the first victory of the day in relatively easy fashion as Serge Ristivojevic and Gustavo Guerin downed David Lemieux-Sarrasin and Joseph Zelic by the count of 8-1 at the No. 2 doubles position. The victory was the duo's 12th win on the year.
The Kangaroos then followed with tight victories at the one and three lines. Patrick Smith and Bret Berryman clinched the first point via their 9-7 win over Jeremy Quiroz and Matthew Kane at No. 1. The victory tied the duo for the team lead with 12 doubles wins. David Heckler and Abdul Alawadhi then completed the doubles sweep with their 9-8 (5) win over Brandon Gallegos and Jordan Tedesco-Blair.
In singles, UMKC claimed straight set wins in four of its five wins. Smith and Guerin dominated their two matches at the two and four lines, respectively, as both players claimed 6-0, 6-0 victories. Smith downed Gallegos, while Guerin topped Kane, as the win was both player's 12th triumph this season.
Ristivojevic topped Zelic, 6-2, 6-2, at the three line for his team-best 13th win and Alawadhi won at No. 5 over Lemieux-Sarrasin, 6-1, 6-2. Berryman, meanwhile, collected the final victory on the day for the 'Roos, as he rallied from a set down at the one position to upend Quiroz, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-7.
UMKC (12-6) will now have a week off before it hosts the second Summit League cluster on April 9-11 at the Plaza Tennis Center.
