Norman, Okla., - The UMKC softball team (6-16) fell, 17-1, to No. 12 Oklahoma on Monday at the OU Softball Complex. Freshman Emily Ott led the way for the 'Roos at the plate, recording one of the squad's five hits and its lone RBI.
Oklahoma took an early lead in the contest, getting four first inning runs off starter Deanna Friese. The Sooners then put the game out of reach with a nine-run second, while adding three more runs in the third and one in the fourth.
UMKC would stave off the shutout in its last at-bat, putting up a single run in the fifth when Carli Slagle scored on Ott's RBI single.
For the 'Roos, Kaelene Curry, Ott, Taylor Hill, Danielle Bennefeld and Anna Sokolik all registered hits, while Friese (3-9) took the loss on the mound.
The Blue and Gold will look to get back on the winning track this weekend when it welcomes in IUPUI for three Summit League games.
