Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC softball team (6-15) dropped the series finale with IPFW on Saturday, 14-1, at Loyola Park. Kalene Curry led the 'Roos in the game, notching two of the teams four hits.
IPFW put the game out of reach early, scoring five runs in the first and nine runs in the second to take a 14-0 lead. Freshman Deanna Friese then entered the game and quieted the Mastodon bats.
UMKC would not get on the scoreboard until late in the contest when back-to-back doubles by Danielle Bennefeld and Lindsay Davis put the squad's lone run on the board.
For the 'Roos, reigning Summit League Pitcher of the Week Anna Sokolik took the loss, while Friese tossed 3.1 innings in relief, allowing no runs and two hits with four strikeouts.
The Blue and Gold will be in action again on Monday when it heads to Norman, Okla., to take on nationally-ranked Oklahoma.
