
'Roos Fall To Northwestern State In ULM Mardi Gras Classic

Monroe, La. - The UMKC softball team lost its second game of the ULM Mardi Gras Classic, 13-2, to Northwestern State. Ashley Whiteside led the way for the 'Roos, as the sophomore finished with a hit, a run, an RBI and a stolen base.
The Demons got the scoring started in the top of the first inning with two runs on RBIs from Kylie Roos and Samantha Roberts, giving Northwestern State an early 2-0 lead.
The 'Roos quickly responded in the bottom of the first, cutting the lead in half on an RBI single by Kaelene Curry, scoring Whiteside.
After a scoreless second though, Northwestern State would break the game open with an 11-run third inning. In the inning, the Demons registered seven hits, two walks and a hit batsman.
The 'Roos would tack on a run in the fifth when an Ashley Whiteside sacrifice scored Anna Sokolik who had tripled earlier in the inning.
For the 'Roos, Whiteside, Curry, Sokolik and Amanda Kinn each recorded one hit, while on the mound freshman Emily Ott took the loss in her UMKC debut after surrendering six runs on four hits.
The Blue and Gold will take on Jackson State tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. in its final game in the ULM Mardi Gras Classic.
