Shreveport, La. -- The UMKC men's soccer team posted its second straight shutout, as it downed Centenary on Saturday night by the count of 1-0 at Mayo Field. The 'Roos have now won three straight and five of their last six matches to improve to 7-3-1 overall and 2-0-0 in The Summit League this season.
After a scoreless first half, UMKC notched the first and only goal of the contest in the 65th minute off a corner kick. Junior Josh Lind sent a corner into the box where he found sophomore Tom Black for the strike. Black beat CC goalkeeper Rennie Walker for the game-winning goal.
Senior Ken Cooper then kept the Gents off the scoreboard to give the 'Roos the victory. Cooper made a pair of saves in the contest to notch his league-leading fifth shutout of the season.
Centenary had a 12-10 advantage in overall shots, but UMKC had seven shots on goal compared to just two for the Gents. The 'Roos also had an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks, one of which led to the lone goal.
UMKC (7-3-1, 2-0-0) will return to action next Saturday when it battles Oakland in a key Summit League match.
