Rochester, Mich. -- The UMKC men's soccer team kept its winning streak and unblemished league record in tact as it battled Oakland to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon at OU Soccer Field. The 'Roos have now won or tied four straight contests to improve their record to 7-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in Summit League play.
Senior Ken Cooper made four saves in goal for the squad en route to his league-leading sixth shutout of the season. Cooper now has a streak of three consecutive shutouts dating back to Oct. 3.
After a scoreless first half, the action turned chippy in second half, as the two teams were whistled for four cards. In the 70th minute, senior Brian Quintana was shown the door with a red card, which made the 'Roos play a man down for the final 40 minutes of the contest.
Cooper and the 'Roos were up to the challenge, however, as they kept the Golden Grizzlies off the board for the key league draw.
Oakland finished with a 13-7 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Grizzlies also had three corner kicks compared to just one for UMKC.
UMKC (7-3-2, 2-0-1) will return to action on Tuesday night when it hosts Illinois-Chicago at DSSRF in a non-league contest.
