
UMKC Comes Up Short Against Southern Utah

Kansas City, Mo. ? The Kangaroos hopes of post season play ended today with a pair of loses to Southern Utah out at Loyola Park. UMKC dropped game one, 4-1 and then fell, 1-0 to drop to 19-34 on the year and 9-14 in The Summit League. Betsy Hanley led the `Roos with two hits and Kelly Fischer scored their lone run on the day off of one hit.
Southern Utah 4 ? UMKC 1
Southern Utah jumped out to an early lead after scoring two runs off of two hits in the first and second innings. UMKC was held scoreless until the sixth inning when they were finally able to convert two hits into one run.
Fischer led with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. An RBI single by Hanley would score Fischer and get the Kangaroos on the scoreboard.
UMKC had several other chances during the game, leaving runners stranded on base in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings.
Samantha Hurst suffered the loss on the mound for the `Roos. The senior threw four innings and gave up four runs off of four hits, with two of those runs being earned. She walked three and struck out two.
Southern Utah 1 ? UMKC 0
UMKC was held to just two hits in the 1-0 loss to the Thunderbirds. Southern Utah would score just one run in the top of the fifth and that's all they would need to secure the win. The Kangaroos would have several chances as they left eight runners stranded on base in game two.
Despite throwing a complete game and striking out three batters, Nicholle Ellis suffered the loss.
UMKC and Southern Utah close out the series and the regular season tomorrow out at Loyola Park. The game is slated for a noon start and the `Roos will honor seniors Amanda Evans, Ellis and Hurst prior to the first pitch.
