
Kangaroos Drop Game At Auburn, 11-3

Auburn, Ala. -- UMKC fell to Auburn 11-3 on Friday afternoon in its first game of the Tiger Invitational. The Kangaroos fall to 0-6 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 8-1. Betsy Hanley, Anna Sokolik and Megan Vicino scored a run a piece during the course of the game.
UMKC fell behind early, giving up three runs in the first two innings. The Kangaroos got on the scoreboard in the second, scoring one run to make the score 3-1.
The Tigers had a big third inning driving in four runs and tacked on two in the fourth to take a commanding 9-1 lead.
The UMKC bats got active in the fourth, with the Kangaroos driving in two runs of their own, cutting the lead to 9-3.
But the Tigers would add two more insurance runs in the sixth and seventh and hold UMKC scoreless in the final innings.
On the mound for the Kangaroos was Samantha Hurst and Sokolik. Hurst started and threw four innings, while Sokolik finished up the game for UMKC. Hurst gave up 11 hits and allowed nine runs to score, seven of which were earned, while striking out two. Sokolik game up two runs off of four hits over the final three innings.
UMKC was set to play Morehead State on Friday at 8:00 p.m. but due to the weather in Auburn, Ala., the rest of the games were postponed until Saturday. The Kangaroos will face Morehead State at 12:30 p.m. and then play Eastern Kentucky at 5:30 p.m.
