
Women's Soccer Hosts Oral Roberts On Thursday Night

Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC women's soccer team will close out the 2009 regular season at home this weekend with Oral Roberts and Centenary. The Kangaroos host the Golden Eagles on Thur., Oct. 29 at 5 p.m. UMKC is coming off of a 5-1 loss at North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon.
UMKC is currently 1-15-1 on the season and 1-6 in league play, The Kangaroos secured their first program win against Southern Utah on Oct. 16. This season scoring for the `Roos has been Zaina Mayer (5 goals), Alyssa D'Egidio (2), Meagan Shipley (1 goal), Alyson Russell (1 goal) and Ariel Rank (1 goal).
Quality vs. Quantity
In its inaugural season, the Kangaroos haven't led their opponents in very many categories. While UMKC has been out shot 420-98 this season, its shot-on-goal percentage ranks superior to opponents. With two games remaining on the schedule, the `Roos have a .520 shot percentage (51-98) compared to a .464 shot percentage (195-420) by their opponents.
Switchin' It Up
The Kangaroos final game of the 2009 season against Centenary on Sat., Oct. 31 has been switched to a 3 p.m. start. The UMKC men's soccer team will host Oakland at noon prior to the women's game.
Busy Weekend for Finnell and Defense
Goalkeeper Jami Finnell and the UMKC defense are coming off of a very busy weekend. The Kangaroos road tripped up to the Dakotas for matches against South and North Dakota State. Over the course of two games, UMKC faced 73 shots.

As a team, UMKC leads The Summit League overall in team saves with 147 headed into the game with Oral Roberts. Jami Finnell continues to lead the league overall in saves and saves per game. The freshman has 145 saves on the year and is recording 8.53 saves per game in the back.

The UMKC women's soccer team faced North Dakota State on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 5-1 decision. The Kangaroos fall to 1-15-1 on the season and 1-6 in The Summit League. Zaina Mayer scored the lone goal for the `Roos and Jami Finnell recorded a career-high 16 saves.
The Bison were all over the Kangaroos in the first half, posting 29 shots. North Dakota State scored in the 22nd, 23rd, 34th and 36th minutes for a 4-0 lead at the end of the half.
The second half was a more balanced game, as the Kangaroos were able to get off six shots. Mayer's fifth goal of the year came in the 62nd minute when she put away a rebound off of the Bison goalkeeper.
North Dakota State would score its fifth and final goal in the 74th minute to seal the victory.
