Kangaroos' Season Comes To An End At The Summit League Championship

Fort Wayne, Ind. -- The UMKC men's tennis team had its season come to a close on Friday afternoon at the Dr. Rudy and Rhonda Kachmann Tennis Center when it dropped a 4-1 decision to Oral Roberts at the 2008 Summit League Championship. The Kangaroos claimed the doubles point to start the match, but the Golden Eagles won four straight singles matches to advance to Saturday's final against top-seeded Western Illinois.
The Kangaroos opened the match strong when Serge Ristivojevic and Patrick Smith topped Alex Kotsuik and Alex Dargel at the one line by the score of 8-5. The squad then secured the matches' first point at the No. 2 position when Erwin Quintanilla and Dennis Schwarz topped Clemens Geerken, 8-5. UMKC's Nick Mader and Nick Patonai were also leading, 7-5, at the three position over Cuan Farquharson and Dario Beslic when the action was stopped.
Oral Roberts evened the score at one all to start singles when Kotsuik defeated Ristivojevic in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Dargel then followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Smith at the two line to give his squad its first lead.
The Golden Eagles then clinched the match with straight set victories at the five and six positions. Geercken defeated Mader, 6-3, 6-1, while Beslic topped Patonai, 6-3, 6-1.
UMKC's Schwarz was leading at the three line, 7-6 (1), over Farquharson, while Quintanilla and Troyke were in a third set.
The Kangaroos finish the season with a 6-9 overall record.
