
Former Kangaroos Quinton Day and Tim Blackwell Selected In NBA D-League Draft

Kansas City, Mo. -- Former UMKC men's basketball players and local products Quinton Day and Tim Blackwell were selected in the NBA D-League Draft on Friday night. Day was the seventh pick in the fifth round (71st overall) by the Erie Bayhawks, while Blackwell was selected by the Dakota Wizards as the sixth pick of the eighth round (118th overall).
Day, who played for the Kangaroos from 2004-07, heads to Erie, Pa., to play for the Bayhawks after spending the 2007-08 playing overseas in Hungary and Turkey. The guard averaged 21.8 points in 12 games for Kaposvari in Hungary before averaging 20.7 points with a .453 field goal percentage for FMV Isikspor in Turkey.
During his playing career in Kansas City, Day was a two-time first team all-Mid-Continent Conference selection, while also being named to the all-newcomer team as a sophomore. The Kansas City, Mo., native completed his career as UMKC's all-time leader in assists (377) and steals (179), while ranking fifth in the record books in scoring with 1,404 points.
Blackwell, meanwhile, travels north to Bismarck, N.D., to play for the Wizards after closing out his collegiate career with the Kangaroos in 2007-08. As a senior, the guard averaged 12.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 35.9 minutes per game. The Cameron, Mo., native ended his career in Blue and Gold as the eighth leading scoring in school history with 1,071 career points. He also has the third best three-point field goal percentage (.403), as he connected on 190-of-471 attempts in his career.
One hundred sixty players were selected in the NBA D-League Draft, as 16 teams made selections over 10 rounds. Former Florida forward Chris Richards, who played in the NBA last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves, was the top pick in the draft by the Tulsa 66ers, while former Kansas State forward Cartier Martin was the final pick of the first round by the Iowa Energy.
Day will have the opportunity to play alongside former Kentucky guard Erik Daniels, while Blackwell will suit up with former Arizona guard Jawaan McClellan this season. The 66ers, meanwhile, also selected three ORU players in the draft, as Moses Ehambe, Yemi Ogunoye and Adam Liberty will all remain in Tulsa to play in the D-League this season.
