Jessica Rizzi joined the Student-Athlete Support Services Office in August 2013. She currently serves as an Academic Mentor and Assistant Advisor for specified teams.
As an academic mentor, she works individually with student-athletes on a weekly basis to provide a variety of educational support to aid student-athletes in achieving their academic, personal, and professional goals. Rizzi assists with advising for Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Softball, and Track & Field. She also leads special projects such as coordinating the life skills program, developing new activities for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, creating interactive bulletin boards with career oriented themes, and serving as a SASSO proctor. Rizzi works to get to know each individual's personal learning style and helps them effectively develop skills to encourage them to be successful in their classes. In coordination with learning assistance, she also tracks academic progress and provides student-athletes with weekly skill instruction that utilizes their individual learning styles.
Rizzi attended Iowa State University where she majored in Child, Adult, and Family Services focusing her studies around children and young adults. During her time at Iowa State, she was a member of the Gymnastics Team, where she received the honors of Dean’s list, Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, NACGC/W Scholastic All-America Honor, and the Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors. Rizzi also completed an internship in Iowa State's Athletic Academic Offices, assisting in the Student-Athlete Affairs program.
Rizzi is currently in the Higher Education: Sports Administration Graduate program at UMKC. In the future, she would like to be an Athletic Academic Program Coordinator for a Division 1 University or Life Skill/Student-Athlete Affairs coordinator.
