Roos Outlasted by Tommies in Tight Duel

Kansas City fought back from behind but fell just short to St. Thomas at the Plaza Tennis Center
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Women's Tennis (3-13, 0-5) took St. Thomas (6-9, 1-3) down to the wire in a back-and-forth battle, ultimately falling short 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the Plaza Tennis Center.
The Tommies grabbed the opening point thanks to Alize Yarwood, Ingrid Forsberg defeating Catherine Chrobak, Maria Bylina 6-2 and Anna Sidorenko, Lily Olson besting Luciana Braga, Alisa Reznik 7-5 to take the first two matches in doubles play.Â
Singles play saw a bevy of tight matches with four of the six contests going to a third set. St. Thomas scored a second overall point in the No. 3 matchup with Sidorenko taking down Chrobak in two sets 6-0, 6-4.
KC was able to get on the board thanks to Bylina posting a two-set victory over Anna Louise Bjornestad, winning 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 6 matchup. Down a point, the Roos responded well as Braga dug herself out of a 1-0 hole, besting Olson 6-2 in set two and 6-0 in set three to grab the three-set win and tie the overall score at 2-2.Â
Elsewhere, Alessandra Xibilia and Caroline Lindahl went to three sets in the No. 2 matchup as the junior Tommie took the match 2-1, with the sets going 6-3, 4-6, 0-6. With UST going up 3-2, the headline match was a thriller as Amal Gati took down Emilia Kroseth in comeback fashion, besting the Tommies No. 1 player 6-2 in set two and 6-3 in the third and deciding set.
At 3-3 all, the match went down to a three-set duel between Reznik and Forsberg in the No. 5 position. Forsberg outlasted Reznik by way of a 6-4, 2-7, 4-6 tally and clinched the win for the Tommies in the process.Â
