Prior to joining Kansas City, Berg made previous stops at Washburn, where he served as a student assistant coach for three years, and Ottawa where he played for two seasons.Â
"I chose to work here so I could be closer to home," Berg said. "I also wanted to come into a program where I can learn from another experienced coach and continue to develop new ideas."Â
Berg will support the Roos in many different areas including but not limited to assisting with recruiting, in charge of opponent scout, liaison to weight room, helping to plan practices, overseeing blocking schemes and training pin hitters.
In his time with the Ichabods, Berg helped Washburn win its first ever MIAA Tournament Championship in 2022 while coaching three AVCA All-Americans and four All-MIAA first team selections.Â
With Berg on the bench, the Ichabods accumulated a 62-27 record from 2022-24, including two years in which Berg helped Washburn earn 20-plus win seasons. Washburn also made the NCAA Central Region Championships in two out of Berg's three years there.Â
In Berg's final season with Washburn, the Ichabods had a 21 win season with ranked wins over #23 Missouri Western State and #5 Nebraska-Kearney to advance in the NCAA Central Region Championships.Â
Prior to Washburn, Berg played at Ottawa for two seasons and earned Second Team All-GPAC honors in 2021 and was named GPAC Setter of the Week once. Berg accumulated 287 assists, 30 service aces and 96 kills through 25 matches played in the 2022 season for the Braves.Â
Before his college years, Berg graduated from Blue Springs South High School in 2020. Berg was a talented athlete, starring in basketball as a First Team All-Conference player his junior and senior seasons.Â
