Brian Roberts is in his first season as a graduate assistant coach with the UMKC men’s soccer program. Roberts joins the ‘Roos after spending the past three years working with the KC Legends soccer program.
Roberts joined the coaching ranks after wrapping up his professional playing career with the Kansas City Wizards. Roberts joined the Wizards developmental roster in 2004 and participated with both their reserves and first team for three seasons before being forced into retirement due to injury.
Roberts was initially drafted into professional soccer out of college by the Minnesota Thunder in the first round of the A-League draft in December 2003.
Roberts played collegiate soccer at Yale University, where he was a four-time all-Ivy League defender for the Bulldogs. He earned first team honors as a senior, second team honors as a sophomore and junior and an honorable mention nod as a freshman.
Roberts started every game during his four-year career at Yale, and he captained the squad as a senior. He also earned First Team All-New England honors as a senior and third team honors as a junior.
Roberts graduated from Yale with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2004.
