Roos win sixth weekly conference award, Clunis’ second, of the 2024-25 indoor season
For the second time in the 2024-25 indoor track and field season, Stephen Clunis is the Summit League Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week, making it the sixth time this season Kansas City has been awarded the honor. Clunis was the first Roo this indoor season to win 'Peak Performer', taking the honor home in December after setting a Kansas City school record in the men's 60-meter dash.Â
The junior sprinter has reclaimed some of that early season magic by breaking his own previously held Kansas City program record of 6.66 seconds, dashing a 6.65 time in the 60-meter dash at this past weekend's Tyson Invitational. Clunis' 6.65 time ranks first in the conference rankings and he's the only Summit League 60m runner to reach a sub-6.70 second time this indoor season.Â
Clunis ranks high nationally as the Kingston, Jamaica native's 6.65 time puts him in a tie for the 39th best time in the country. Clunis leads a men's sprints group in Kansas City that ranks as the 14th best men's 60m group in the indoor season according to USTFCCCA event group rankings.Â
The Roos have won the Summit League Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week award six times as a team this winter, including five of those six on the men's track side of the coin. Kansas City has taken home the 'Peak Performer' honor for Summit League men's track five out of the eight times the award has been handed out this season.Â
Clunis now has won the honor twice, following fellow men's sprinter Tory Lanham third time around the horn last week and Jaleesa McWashington's win back in mid-January. Look for the Roos to continue their dominance in the conference weekly awards in a couple weeks when Kansas City travels to Sioux Falls, SD for the Summit League Indoor Championships.
