Notes: Kansas City Looks for Redemption in Big Sky/Summit Challenge Facing Portland State

- Kansas City and Portland State squared off in the 2024 Big Sky/Summit Challenge with the Roos taking the victory 75-56 at the Swinney Center two seasons ago. Emani Bennett led KC in scoring with 11 points and three assists while Zaire Harrell chipped in eight points and three rebounds. Kansas City is 3-0 in the all-time series against the Vikings.Â
- Kansas City shoots the leather of the basketball from long range this season, coming into Saturday's matchup hitting 43.5% from three point distance, the second highest three point percentage in NCAA DI hoops. The Roos also make 7.1 three pointers a game, the best mark in the Summit and ranking 108th nationally.Â
- Jamyah Winter is Kansas City's leader in the clubhouse when it comes to outside shooting. Winter leads the Summit in total three pointers (28), threes per game (3.5) and three point percentage (50.9%) and is top 15 in the country in all three categories. Â
- Elauni Bennett is off to a breakout junior season, averaging 15.6 ppg and 7.5 rpg as well as being one of only three players in the Summit to average over 15 points and seven rebounds this year. Bennett holds two games of 20-plus points, two double-doubles and has led KC in scoring in five games.Â
- The Roos specialize in creating chaos on their opponents, forcing 20.9 turnovers a night, 10.6 steals per contest and holding a 4.8 turnover margin, all conference best marks in the Summit League this season and top 75 marks nationally.Â
- Portland State comes off a 75-51 loss to South Dakota in the first game of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge, sinking the Vikings to 2-6 overall.
- Portland State is winless on the road this season at 0-4 and heads into Saturday on a two game losing streak with the Vikings last win coming in the form of a 94-64 win over UC San Diego on Nov. 30.Â
- The Vikings thrive at the free throw line, leading the Big Sky in both free throw attempts per game (21.3) and made free throws per game (15.9). PSU also converts from the foul line at a 74.7% clip, the third highest mark in the Big Sky.
- Kyleigh Brown leads the Vikings in scoring, averaging 19.1 points per game on 44% shooting from the floor, 46% from three and 91% from the free throw line. Brown totaled 28 points against South Dakota and has four games of 20-plus points this season.Â
