Kansas City eclipsed the century mark for the first time this season, shooting 55.7% from the field
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Men's Basketball (2-9) used a 23-10 run over the final seven minutes to ice the game against Spurgeon tonight, coming away with a 102-75 victory. The hot-shooting Roos were able to mend some of their three-point woes, going 10-of-18 from behind the arc on the night and shooting 55.7% from the field. Kasheem Grady II and Jerome Palm led the way, each scoring career-highs. Grady went for 23 points on 5-of-7 three point shooting while Palm tallied 21 points and 13 boards for his second-straight double-double.
Spurgeon opened the scoring on their first possession with a bucket inside by Joseph Allen, but KC responded on the next trip down the court with Grady's first triple of the day and never looked back, leading the rest of the way. The Knights were able to draw within a possession a couple of times in the first half but the Roos always had a response, ending the frame on a 10-2 run and taking a 16-point lead into the half.
Palm and Grady combined for a six-point run early in the second half to push the Kansas City lead to 20, but the Knights were able to chip the deficit down to 10 going into the under-12 media break. Palm found Jayson Petty for the first bucket following the timeout, sparking a 35-18 run to end the game. Kansas City finished the contest with an exclamation mark, Petty finding Grady in transition for a thunderous alley oop that pushed the Roos over the 100-point plateau.
Five Kansas City players finished in double-digits, with Petty, Karmello Branch and Addarin Scott all aiding in KC's highest-scoring affair since a win over Calvary on Nov. 18 of last season. Thirty of the Roos' points came from beyond the three-point arc for a season-high tying 10 three-pointers on 55.6% shooting, over 30 percentage points better than the team's season average.
Palm bested his career-high scoring mark for the second-straight game, shooting 7-of-9 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line, his first-ever 20-point performance. He went for his team-best second double-double, making him the first Roo to achieve a double-double in consecutive games since Jamar Brown on Jan. 2 and 4 of last year.Â
Grady's 23 points were also a career best and tied CJ Evans' performance against Iona on Nov. 11 for the best scoring showing by a Roo this season. He surpassed his previous career-high of 21 points, achieved against Kansas Christian on Nov. 8, 2024. It marks the third time in his Kansas City career that Grady has led the Roos in scoring and is the first time this season. It is also the first time that two KC players have scored 20-plus in the same game since Feb. 8 of last season.
The Roos return to their road gauntlet this week, traveling to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State for a pair of games.Â
