CJ Evans led the Roos in scoring for the second-straight game, finishing with 17
AUSTIN, Texas - Kansas City Men's Basketball (1-3) stuck around in its biggest road test of the young season, falling in a 71-55 decision to Texas this afternoon. The Roos were led by CJ Evans' scoring for the second-straight game, finishing with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Kansas City's defense held the Longhorns to 39.7% shooting from the field, over six percentage points below their season average.
Texas opened the game on a 10-2 run, but the Roos were able to stick with them for the rest of the half. Kasheem Grady II entered off the bench and immediately scored four-straight for Kansas City. The Longhorn lead swelled to as many as 14, but the offensive tandem of Evans and Jayson Petty made it a 12-point game at the half.
Kansas City began cutting into the Texas lead in the second frame, pulling within single digits multiple times. The first came as the Roos opened the half on a 4-0 run, then a dunk by Addarin Scott with under 13 minutes remaining made it a nine-point game. Finally, Karmello Branch knocked down a jumper with 10 minutes remaining and made it an eight-point game, but Texas responded with a 12-point run to create separation.
The Roos return to action on Wednesday, traveling to TCU for a 7 p.m. tip off.
