Freshman Anika Patton earned her first career start in goal
DENVER, Colo. - Kansas City Women's Soccer (5-6-1, 0-2 Summit) fell in a tough battle at Denver (6-3-3, 3-0 Summit) this evening, 3-0. Freshman Anika Patton got her first-career start in goal, making three saves on the day.Â
Denver had an edge from the jump, attempting four shots within the first 10 minutes. The Roos had their first opportunity in the seventh minute when Ashley Koch took a chance from the left side of the box, but her shot went just above the crossbar and out. The Pioneers struck first in the 24th minutes, and again in the 40th minute to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
The Pioneers added their third goal in the 66th minute, but the Roos did not go down without a fight. Kansas City attempted four of its seven shots in the game's final 25 minutes, including the lone shot on goal, an attempt from Delfina Zolesio Fernandez Blanco following a corner kick opportunity.
Kansas City is back in action next Thursday, hosting South Dakota at Durwood Soccer Stadium.
