Roos Hit the Road, Travel to Omaha
1/24/2025 3:45:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The Roos and the Mavericks play Saturday at 1 p.m.
THE STARTERS
- The Kansas City defense ranks third in the Summit during conference play, holding opponents to 66.8 points per game. The Roos join North Dakota State and South Dakota State as one of three programs holding opponents to 70 points or fewer per game. The Roos also lead the league in offensive rebounds per game, averaging 12.5.Â
- A win over Omaha would mark the most conference wins in the Jackson-Durrett era. It would also be the first season with more than three league wins since 2021-22 when the Roos went 12-6 in conference play.Â
- The Roos enter their game against Omaha coming off a successful three-game home span where they went 2-1, picking up wins over Denver and NDSU. Saturday's game is their first away game since Jan. 11, when the Roos traveled to Brookings to take on South Dakota State.Â
- Elauni Bennett had a career-high night against Oral Roberts knocking down 17 points and besting her previous career high of 15 which she earned twice last season. El. Bennett went 8-for-10 from the field, becoming the first Roo to shoot 80% or better (min. 10 att.) since her sister did so against Omaha on March 8, 2024.Â
- Alayna Contreras and Emani Bennett have been key offensive performers for the Roos throughout the season. In conference play, Contreras averages 19.8 points per game while Em. Bennett averages 17.3.Â
SCOUTING OMAHA
- Omaha will look to snap a five-game losing stretch that has dropped them to 1-5 in conference play. The Mavericks' most recent win came in their conference opener on Jan. 2 when they defeated North Dakota, 71-66.Â
- Saturday will be a rematch of last year's first-round game at the Summit League Tournament when Omaha defeated Kansas City, 61-55. The Mavericks hold a 2-0 record over the Roos in the postseason, beating KC in back-to-back appearances in 2023 and 2024. In the regular season, Kansas City holds a 3-1 advantage over UNO in the past two years.Â
- Grace Cave is a player to watch on the Mavericks squad. She leads the team in points, field goals, three-pointers, assists, blocks, steals, minutes and assists to turnover ratio. She averages over 31 minutes per game and 13.6 points.Â
- Both the Roos and Mavericks have won three times in Omaha. Kansas City, however, holds a 3-0 record in Omaha in the past three meetings.Â
