
Contreras Brings Home Kwik Star Summit League Women’s Basketball Co-Peak Performer of the Week Honor

Alayna Contreras helped lead KC to back-to-back wins, scoring a combined 41 points
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Following a career-high 31 points in the overtime win against Denver and a team-leading four assists in KC's win over North Dakota State, the Summit League announced Alayna Contreras as the Co-Kwik Star Summit League Women's Basketball Peak Performer of the Week. Contreras played a career-high 44 minutes in the 73-66 victory over Denver. She went 3-for-7 from outside the arc and 12-for-14 from the charity stripe. In the 56-51 comeback win over NDSU, Contreras played for 37 minutes logging two steals, a block and 10 points. This marks Contreras's first Peak Performer recognition of her career. She is honored alongside South Dakota State's Brooklyn Meyer.
Contreras ranks 82nd in the nation in minutes per game and fifth in the Summit League, averaging 33.98 minutes per game. During league play Contreras ranks fourth in the Summit for scoring averaging 19.8 points per game. Her 10-point performance against NDSU marks her 13th consecutive double-digit appearance and her 17th of the season. She ranks eight in the Summit in three-point field goals per game (1.8) and is tied for tenth in steals (1. 4).
The Roos open conference play with a 3-2 record, its best start to league play since the 2019-20 when the Roos went 3-2 across the first five games. Contreras becomes the first player to receive Peak Performer honors since Naomie Alnatas was recognized on Feb. 7, 2022. Kansas City wraps up its three-game home stretch hosting Oral Roberts on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
