Roos Travel to Edinburg for UTRGV Holiday Classic

KC plays Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Thursday and UTRGV Friday
THE STARTERS
- Thursday's game marks the first meeting between the Roos and Islanders in 20 years and their first meeting at a neutral site. Both the Roos and Islanders have one win in the series.Â
- Alayna Contreras put up her second 20-point performance of the season at Tulsa, knocking down 22 points and setting a new career-high in field goal attempts with 25. Contreras has been Kansas City's leading scorer in 4 games this year including KC's season-opening victory over Utah State when she scored 29 points.Â
- The UTRGV Holiday Classic marks the second multi-team event Kansas City Women's Basketball has participated in under coach Jackson-Durrett. The Roos went 1-2 last season in the Cleveland State Multi-Team event, picking up a win over Chicago State.Â
- Following the UTRGV Holiday Classic, the Roos return home for a game against Westminster on Dec. 29 for their final non-conference game. Kansas City then travels to St. Thomas for its conference opener on Jan. 2.Â
- Kansas City continues its search for the final piece of its starting lineup. In the past four games, KC has experimented with three different lineups but maintained Ana Oliveira Dias, Alayna Contreras, Zaire Harrell and Emani Bennett in each of the four configurations. Contreras and Em. Bennett are the only Roos to make starts in all 12 games this season.Â
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M - CORPUS CHRISTI
- The Islanders lead the nation in field goal percentage on defense holding opponents to a .298 clip on average.Â
- Texas A&M Corpus Christi enters Thursday's game coming off a 59-66 loss against SFA in their conference opener.Â
- Offensively, the Islanders are led by Mireia Aguado and Paige Allen who each average over 11 points per game. The pair are the only Islanders averaging double-digits with Jaeda Whitner, the third-highest scorer, averaging 6.8 points per game.Â
- The last meeting between Kansas City and Texas A&M Corpus Christi came on Jan. 15, 2004, with the Islanders earning a 76-60 victory.Â
- The Roos and the Islanders bring down 37.8 and 40.0 rebounds per game respectively. The Roos hold the upper hand with offensive rebounds earning over 15 per game.Â
SCOUTING UTRGV
- The Vaqueros enter the tournament coming off a 44-69Â against Lamar on Saturday. UTRGV faces Eastern Michigan on Thursday at 6:30 before hosting the Roos on Friday.Â
- UTRGV played Oral Roberts on Nov. 11 in Tulsa and lost 65-58 to a Golden Eagles squad that currently ranks second in the Summit League. Kansas City and Oral Roberts face twice during conference play with the Roos hosting the Golden Eagles on Jan. 22.Â
- This marks the 19th meeting between Kansas City and UTRGV. The pair have earned nine wins each with the Roos holding a 2-1 advantage when playing at a neutral site.Â
- Kade Hackerott leads the Vaqueros on the offensive end averaging 13.8 points per game. She is the only Vaquero averaging in the double-digits and leads the team in steals nabbing 1.6 on average.Â
- The Vaqueros hold a .9 assist to turnover ratio averaging 16.5 assists per game.Â
