Em. Bennett and Bannerman Notch Career-Highs, Roos Outlasted by Islanders

EDINBURG, TEXAS — Kansas City Women's Basketball (3-10) started strong against Texas A&M Corpus Christi (6-4) outscoring the Islanders 21-to-16 in the first quarter. The Roos were led by Emani Bennett and Kelby Bannerman who combined for 37 points. Kansas City was ultimately outlasted by Corpus Christi falling, 59-64 in the first game of the UTRGV Holiday Classic. Em. Bennett put up a game-high 27 points and bested her previous career-high by one while Bannerman notched the first double-double of her career bringing down 10 rebounds and scoring 10 points.

1Q — 5:46 / 10-10 | Zaire Harrell and Bannerman double-teamed the Corpus Christi player as she drove the ball to the net. Harrell got her hand on the shot and Bannerman brought down the block. Bannerman then connected with Lisa Thomas who lobbed the ball to a streaking Ana Oliveira Dias. Oliveira Dias drove the ball in for the layup to tie the game.

Bannerman found Contreras who connected with Thomas as she sprinted down the court. Thomas went in for the layup and got the whistle, knocking down her free throw to push Kansas City ahead by two.

- Em. Bennett set a new career-high of 27 points, besting her previous career high by one which she earned on Feb. 10 against North Dakota. She was the only Roo to score from the field in the second quarter and earned nine points. This marks Em. Bennett's third 20-point performance of the season.
- Bannerman notched her first-career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. This marks a season-high in rebounds and her third double-digit scoring performance of the season.
- Contreras also earned her own career-high playing 40 minutes in the game. She is the only Roo to play a 40-minute game this season and bested her previous career-high by two minutes.
