
Contreras’ Game-High Not Enough to Overcome Tulsa

The junior guard led all scorers with 22 points on the road
TULSA, Okla. - Kansas City Women's Basketball (3-9) couldn't get the job done on the road as the Roos fell to Tulsa (5-5) by a final score of 89-61. The Roos were led by a scintillating offensive showcase put on by Alayna Contreras, who scored a game-high 22 points and shot 10-25 from the floor. Kelby Bannerman totaled 10 points, making her the only other Roo to score in double figures for the contest, and grabbed eight rebounds. Elauni Bennett registered eight points and six rebounds to the cause as well.

- 1Q - 7:25 / 2-3 | Kansas City got on the board early thanks to El. Bennett's dirty work as the sophomore guard scooped up an offensive rebound and put the ball back up and in the basket for the Roos first points of the game.
- 1Q - 5:35 / 7-11 | Contreras got her own from start to finish, as the junior guard nailed her first few shots, including a first frame mid range jumper to bring the Roos within four of Tulsa early on.
- 2Q - 6:04 / 19-34 | Kelby Bannerman found her way into a second quarter groove, scoring the Roos first six points of the frame, including a baby hook jump shot from a few feet out.
- 2Q - 4:31 / 24-36 | Ana Oliveira Dias notched a first half three pointer for the Roos thanks to a pretty assist from Contreras and a great looking shot on the part of Dias.
- 3Q - 5:05 / 37:58 | Contreras continued her offensive barrage, shooting the lights out from mid-range and from behind the arc as she nailed her second three of the game in the Roos 19-point third quarter.
STATS TO NOTE
- Contreras' 22 point outing is her second highest scoring output of the season, behind the 29 points Contreras earned against Utah State in the Roos season opener. Contreras has now recorded nine games in double figure scoring this season and two of 20-plus points or more.
- Bannerman's 10 point afternoon makes it the second time the senior forward has scored in double figures this season. Bannerman also tied her season high in rebounds at eight, the same mark she had last time out against Kansas.
- El. Bennett scored eight points and six rebounds, making it the fifth time he's hit both those marks or better in a game this season.
