The event will also serve as a men's basketball alumni reunion, bringing former players together to celebrate the program's history
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Athletics is proud to celebrate Lee Hunt in conjunction with the retirement of Tony Dumas' iconic #23 jersey on Dec. 4, 2024. The historic event will take place at 7 p.m. when the Roos' men's basketball team faces off against Idaho at the Swinney Center.
The evening will honor the legacies of two of the program's most influential figures. Tony Dumas, the first player in Kansas City basketball history to be drafted to the NBA, will have his jersey retired in recognition of his monumental impact on the program. Dumas, who was selected 19th overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1994 NBA Draft, still holds multiple program records, including single-season scoring average, single-season three-point percentage, and career 20-plus point games. He ranks second on the Roos' all-time scoring list with 2,459 points and played four seasons in the NBA.
The celebration will also spotlight Lee Hunt who, as the head coach and athletics director, guided the Roos into the Division I ranks. Hunt, a member of the Kansas City Athletics Hall of Fame, remains the program's all-time winningest coach with 113 victories.
This event will also serve as a men's basketball alumni reunion, bringing former players together to celebrate the program's history. Men's basketball alumni can receive a free ticket to the game by using the promo code "MBBALUMNI" at KCRoos.com/tickets.
