
Roos Secure Win Over Holy Cross To Sweep FAU Invitational

The Roos held the Crusaders to negative hitting in two sets and continued to display strong serving prowess
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Kansas City Volleyball completed a perfect weekend at the Florida Atlantic Invitational with a dominating performance over Holy Cross this morning, winning 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-18). The Roos were led by Odyssey Warren and Carly Gillen, both collecting eight kills in the victory. Kansas City was able to rack up 13 aces, compared to just three from Holy Cross. At the tournament's conclusion, Carly Gillen was named Tournament MVP and Sydney Henry earned All-Tournament Team honors. Gillen's dominant weekend included 26 kills on .415 hitting, going for five solo blocks and 17 block assists. Henry was all over the stat sheet, dishing out 99 assists and posting 33 digs for a pair of double-doubles. She also sent across five service aces and was involved in 11 total blocks.

SET ONE / 25-11 | Holy Cross took a 4-0 lead to begin the match, but the Roos were quick to rebound, going on a 19-3 run behind two service aces apiece from Leah Green, Blair Taylor and Odyssey Warren. Green sent across one more ace late in the set and Warren capped off the set with a kill.

SET TWO / 25-12 | A pair of kills from Kaia Dunford and two aces from Sydney Henry helped the Roos grab an early 6-0 lead in the second set, and they never looked back. Kansas City held Holy Cross to just eight kills and -0.033 hitting in the second set, swinging at a .385 clip of its own.

SET THREE / 25-18 | The Roos established the block early in the first set, using three blocks to build an 8-3 lead. The Crusaders began to draw back, but a kill from Nyle Mathis pushed the Roos back in front and they never looked back.
STATS TO NOTE

Taylor ended the tournament with nine service aces, setting the tone after sending across zero aces in 11 sets played during her freshman campaign.

Henry dished out 24 assists on the match, rounding out 99 total assists for the tournament, compared to her 66 in her first three matches last year. She also tossed across a career-high-tying four aces today.

Gillen and Warren led KC with eight kills each, followed by Dunford's five to pace KC's attack.

Green and Henry led the Roos' back line with eight digs each, holding Holy Cross to single digit kills in the first two sets.

With the dominant performance, Tess McConnell and Caroline Keithley each made their collegiate debuts, while Mathis made her first appearance of the season.
