Roos Lose a Heartbreaker on Senior Day

Mensah, St. Andre and Stafford combine for 60-of-73 points in the loss
KANSAS CITY, Mo – In a tight game, Kansas City Women's Basketball (7-22, 3-15 Summit) fell to South Dakota (14-15, 10-8 Summit) 74-73. The Roos played their hearts out on Senior Day, but were edged by a USD layup with 5.2 seconds left. KC fought through the adversity of only having seven players as three were missed due to illness.
Kansas City played with great energy, finishing with a 52.8% shooting clip. They battled to the final buzzer with three players finishing in double figures. Manna Mensah led all scorers with 23 points, followed by E'Lease Stafford scoring 20. Sanaa' St. Andre was working on both sides of the court, ending with 17 points and five steals.

March 3, the Roos will head to Sioux Falls, S.D. to play in the Summit League Women's Basketball Championship at 3 p.m.

- 2Q – 6:44 / 28-18 | St. Andre's two early steals helped the Roos get rolling in the second quarter. Stafford hit a tough, fade-away jumper at the end of the shot clock. Next possession down, Stafford made her second three on the day. KC scored the first 12 points of the second quarter.

- 2Q – 1:16 / 32-28 | Stafford spun in the lane for a turnaround jump-shot to snap a 10-point SD scoring swing.
- 3Q – 8:35 / 38-35 | St. Andre got the Roos started in the third quarter with an open jump-shot set up by the assist from Zaire Harrell.
- 3Q – 3:13 / 48-45 | Mensah scored eight-straight points for the Roos. First, Mensah hit a transition layup off the St. Andre steal and assist. Next time down, Mensah hit a contested jumper off the in-bound, and ended off the scoring run with a couple driving layups.
- 3Q – 0:00 / 56-53 | Mensah scored 12 points in the third quarter and capped it off with another contested jump shot as the clock expired.
- 4Q – 7:58 / 61-58 | Mensah opened the quarter scoring the first five points for the Roos with an open three-pointer and a deep jump-shot.
- 4Q – 2:57 / 73-67 | St. Andre had near identical, driving layups on back-to-back possessions. Next time down, Stafford was forced to shoot a last-second three to beat the shot clock giving them a late, six-point lead. South Dakota ended on a seven-point run to win the game.
- Stafford and St. Andre combined for 23 of 36 first half points for the Roos.
- In the first half, KC converted 12 points off six USD turnovers.
- The Roos put up 13 second-chance points on eight offensive rebounds.
