The Roos' three seniors finished off the season with wins
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Women's Tennis won it's second match in-a-row this afternoon, ending the year with a 7-0 sweep of Western Illinois. The Roos' seniors, Grace Ball, Michela Xibilia and Riddhi Sharma, all ended things off with singles wins in the victory.
KC was helped by a quick start in doubles, as Laura Munoz-Baroja and Anastassiya Timofeyeva got things going with a 6-3 win on the No. 2 court. Ball and Eva Kresovic picked up a 7-5 win at No. 1 and Sharma and Xibilia combined for a 6-3 win at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point.
Munoz-Baroja kept things rolling early in singles play, coasting to a 6-0, 6-0 victory on the No. 3 court. It was her fourth singles victory of the year, all coming from the third ranking.
Xibilia was the next off her court, earning a 6-1, 6-0 win to finish the season on a three-match winning streak. Through four years, Xibilia has 25 career singles victories.
"We will have Michela back next year, which is great," Head Coach Kendell Hale said of Xibilia.
The clinching point came from Grace Ball on the No. 1 court, whose 6-2, 6-1 win was the 32nd singles victory of her career. She also finished with 33 doubles wins, which ranks ninth in program history.
"I've known Grace and her family for many years," Hale said. "Her sister, Jessica Ball, was my first recruit at Kansas City. I remember asking Grace where she wanted to play, and she said, 'I wanna be a Roo!' She has been pivotal to our program as a leader and a player. She wears her faith and her heart on her sleeve, and we are better because of it."
Sharma finished things with a win as well, earning a 6-1, 6-1 win on the No. 4 court. Sharma finishes her career with 40 combined victories in singles and doubles.
"Riddhi has been such an impact player for us over the past four years, with many important wins under her belt," Hale said. "More than being a great player, she is an amazing person and leader."
Timofeyeva earned a straight-set win at No. 5, and Tuana Tinaztepe picked up a three-set win at No. 6 to clinch the sweep and send the seniors off with a bang.
"I couldn't be prouder of this group of seniors," Hale said. "They will be truly missed."
