Softball Falls to Weber State in First Day of UNLV Desert Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Kansas City Softball (1-5) fell to Weber State (4-2) after five innings, with a final score of 3-11, in the first day of the UNLV Desert Classic. Kloe Hilbrenner stuffed the stat sheet with a homerun, a double, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Kansas City will face Weber State again tomorrow at 2 p.m. CST before taking on UNLV at 7:30 p.m. CST to complete the Saturday double-header.
INNING-BY-INNING
- 1 / 0-2 | Two hits by Weber State and an error by KC gave the Wildcats a two-run lead early. Big Sky Pitcher of the Year, Mariah Ramirez, turned around and sat the Roos' top of the lineup down in order.
- 2 / 0-2 | Alexis D'Ambrosio earned her first hit of the season, but KC did not cross the plate.
- 3 / 1-4 | Weber State blasted a two-run homerun and Jenna Milan came in to close out the inning with a strikeout. Hilbrenner answered with a homerun of her own.
- 4 / 1-11 | The Wildcats tacked on seven runs in the fourth off of three different KC pitchers.
- 5 / 2-11 | Kansas City brought in two runs in the final frame, but it was just short of extending the game another inning. Hilbrenner drove a double that brought in Katie Slauson who walked earlier in the inning and Ally Vonfeldt brought in Hilbrenner with a two-out hit.
- Hilbrenner hit her first homerun of her senior season, totaling nine career long balls.
- D'Ambrosio and Vonfeldt were the only other Roos to earn a hit in the game.
- Four KC pitchers saw mound time; Mia Hoveland started the game and went 2.2 innings, freshmen Jenna Milan and Audrey Danielson combined for one inning, and Camryn Stickel closed the final 1.2 innings.
