Volleyball Opens Summit Play with Win over NDSU

FARGO, N.D. - Kansas City Volleyball used an All-American night from Melanie Brecka to take the conference opener from North Dakota State, 3-1 (29-27, 25-20, 14-25, 25-14). Brick finished with an 18-kill, 14-dig double-double and hit at a .484 clip to lead the Roos to victory.
KEY MOMENTS
- S1 | The Roos opened the match hot, jumping out to a 5-0 lead with two kills from Brecka.
- S1 | The Kansas City lead reached 16-9 on a big kill by De'Janae Arnold.
- S1 | After NDSU came storming back on a 10-2 run, a block by Arnold and Odyssey Warren tied things up at 23-23.
- S1 | Brecka's eighth kill of the first set gave KC the 29-27 victory.
- S2 | Bree Thompson checked into the match in the second set and immediately impacted the game, throwing down three kills en route to a 9-7 Kansas City lead.
- S2 | Brecka came through for the Roos once again, throwing across a kill to put the Roos up, 17-13.
- S2 | A block by Brecka and Carly Gillen secured the second set for the Roos, 25-20.
- S3 | Warren sent across three-straight kills early in the third set to give KC a 7-4 edge.
- S3 | The Bison used an 8-3 run midway through the set to secure an advantage and force a fourth set.
- S4 | Kansas City responded quickly in the fourth set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead following a Thompson kill.
- S4 | The Roos continued to dominate, forcing NDSU to burn its second timeout after a solo block by Odyssey Warren.
- S4 | KC took eight of the final 12 points to open up Summit League play with a victory.
STATS TO NOTE
- Brecka's .484 hitting percentage was a season-high and marked the second time this year that she has eclipsed the .400 mark.
- Brecka's double-double was her seventh of the season.
- The Roos finished the match with 13 total kills, a season-high. Arnold and Gillen paced the Roos with six blocks each.
- Alli Schomers finished with 52 assists, her fourth match with 50-plus assists this season.
- Maddie Renn led the Roos' backline with 17 digs. She and Brecka were the only Roos to reach double digits.
