Kansas City women's tennis battled, but fell to Denver in the League Championship
DENVER, Colo. - In their first season in returning to the Summit League, Kansas City Women's Tennis qualified for the finals of the League Championship, but fell to Denver, 0-4.
"Denver played well, and we never could get a foot in the door today," Head Coach Kendell Hale said. "We were struggling with energy from a long match last night, but the girls put in everything they had."
Denver, ranked 49th in the nation, took the doubles point early and carried the momentum into singles play. The Pioneers took points at one, three and six singles to seal the match.
The Roos will graduate seniors Grace Ball, Yana Grechkina and Thanushree Vale, each of whom will leave with a NCAA Tournament qualification under their belts. All three were a part of the 2017-18 team that won the WAC Tournament, while Grechkina and Vale were both also a part of the 2016-17 team that won the WAC and played Oklahoma State in the first round.
"My hats off to our seniors, who gave us a great year," Hale said. "These girls are true champions in my eyes and they will leave with championship rings to their credit along with a ton of great memories."
